Athletics & Academics: Perfect APR
The Longwood University Women's Golf and Women's Tennis programs have posted perfect scores of 1,000 in the latest release this past May of the multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. These two teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Additionally, this marks the second-straight year that these two intercollegiate programs have attained this stellar academic distinction.
"I am extremely proud of the women's golf and women's tennis programs," said Troy Austin, Longwood director of athletics."They work hard in their academic endeavors and represent Longwood University very well."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes both retention at an institution and academic eligibility in its calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years. The teams recognized this year represent 11.8 percent of the 6,484 Division I teams. The list includes 319 men's teams and 448 women's teams. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 976 to a perfect 1,000 over the data collection period. These public-recognition awards are part of the overall Division I academic-reform effort.
