October 22, 2010
"Call the Professor," a new call-in program featuring Longwood faculty, will begin airing on WFLO on Monday, Oct. 25, at 8:05 am during The Call Flo Radio Show. The live show, hosted by Francis Wood, WFLO general manager, will be broadcast on both WFLO FM 95.7 and WFLO AM 870.
Dr. Stephen Keith, assistant professor of education, initiated the idea of the show and submitted a formal proposal to the College of Education and Human Services where "Call the Professor" was endorsed by his colleagues. Dr. Peggy Tarpley, chair of the Department of Education and Special Education assisted with program development, which is a collaborative effort with both WFLO radio and the Farmville Herald.
"Call the Professor" will feature various topics and speakers from Longwood University. It will air every other week and will be preceded by an article in the Farmville Herald on the Friday prior to the Monday broadcast. Watch this Friday's edition of the Farmville Herald (Oct. 22, p. 12A) for the first story on "Call the Professor."
The first topic on "Call the Professor" will be, "Is Noise Causing us to Lose Our Hearing?" The featured speaker will be Dr. Lissa Power-deFur, professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders and director of the Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning.
