LCCLL to offer programs for persons who are hard of hearing

Sign Language The Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning (LCCLL) is an interdisciplinary center that offers speech and language services, tutoring, and more.

The Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning (LCCLL) will offer two programs for persons who are hard of hearing.

On Tuesday, September 30 from 6:15-7:15 p.m., Gary Talley, outreach specialist from the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, will demonstrate new telephone and alarm technologies that are available to assist persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. He will also discuss support programs provided the Virginia Department of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.   The free program will be held in Longwood University’s Greenwood Library, Room 147B. To register for the program and receive information about free parking on campus, call the LCCLL at 434.395.2972 or 1.800.518.8828. 

In October, the LCCLL will offer its Communication Strategies program for adults with hearing loss. This program focuses on listening strategies, environmental modifications, and speech-reading tips to enhance the communication abilities.   It is designed both for persons who wear hearing aids and those who do not, as well as for family members of persons with hearing loss. The program will be held from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on four consecutive Wednesdays (October 15, 22, 20, and November 5). The fee is $25 for one individual and $35 for two persons from the same family. All participants will receive a workbook that includes background information and practice material. For more information and to register, call the LCCLL at 434.395.2972 or 1.800.518.8828.
