Dogs on campus must be on leash
October 7, 2008
People who take their dogs on the Longwood University campus are reminded that they must have them on a leash and must clean up after them.
Longwood falls under Town of Farmville ordinances that prohibit dogs from running at large and require dog owners to remove their waste. “There has been growing concern from issues related to improper care of people’s pets,” said Dr. Tim Pierson, vice president for student affairs. “We just want people to know that we will enforce the ordinances. This also applies to First Avenue Field, which is used for intramurals and club sports.”
Bob Beach, chief of the Longwood Police, doesn’t anticipate any problems once people know about the ordinances. “Many people in the community walk their dogs on campus,” he said. “I’m an animal lover, and I have all sorts of animals and was a K-9 officer for nine years, but I also believe in responsibility in taking caring of them.”
