Camp JumpStart offers learning and fun for preschoolers

Longwood University's Communication Sciences and Disorders program will offer Camp JumpStart, a summer learning camp designed for young children (ages 3 1/2 to 5) to learn about the alphabet, phonemic awareness, print concepts, and to develop improved listening comprehension skills.

Two sessions of Camp JumpStart will be held at the Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning (LCCLL) on Main Street in Farmville.  Session one will be held June 30-July 9 and session two will be held July 14-30. Sessions will be held 9-11:45 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday. Eight children will be accepted for each session and children may register for either or both sessions. The cost is $100 for session one (six classes) or $150 for session two (nine classes) or $200 for both sessions (15 classes). Children who enroll will need to be available for a one-hour assessment session on June 25 or 26.

Located in Farmville at Third and Main streets on the third floor above the Daily Grind, the LCCLL is an interdisciplinary center that offers speech and language services, tutoring, and classes in parenting skills.

Graduate students enrolled in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDS) program will conduct the daily interactive sessions under the supervision of CSDS faculty members. Limited scholarship funds are available and will be awarded based on need. For more information, contact Peggy Agee at ageepc@longwood.edu or call the LCCLL at 395.2972.
