2010 News Releases
Longwood Supervisor of the Year and Student Employee of the Year chosen
April 14, 2010
Lynn Estes
Lynn Estes, recruiting coordinator in the Academic and Career Advising Center, was recently selected Supervisor of the Year in Longwood University's student employment program. Aaron Irving, a senior from Chesapeake who is the supervisor of intramural sports for Campus Recreation, is the Student Employee of the Year.
Estes, a 1968 Longwood graduate, has worked in the Academic and Career Advising Center since June 2007 and has been at Longwood since 1994. She also has worked in the registrar's office (1999-2007), for the Southside Virginia Business and Education Commission (four years), which was housed at Longwood, and in the Student Union (one year).
After graduating from Longwood with an English degree, she worked in the Farmville office of the Virginia Employment Commission for two years, then took time off to have children, then worked at Hampden-Sydney College for 15 years. "At Hampden-Sydney, I worked in the career counseling office, so I feel like, by working in the career counseling office here, I've kind of come full circle," said Estes.
She and her husband, Howard Estes, who works for the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Department, have two sons and three grandchildren.

Aaron Irving
Irving, a computer science major who will graduate May 8, has worked in Campus Recreation all four years at Longwood. He is a graduate of Great Bridge High School and is the son of Mickey and Tammy Irving. He is a resident technology associate and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Estes and Irving received their awards April 11 at the annual Citizen Leader Awards luncheon. National Student Employment Week, April 4-10 this year, honors student employees and their employers. Longwood employs about 700 students in various areas of campus, and there are more than 70 supervisors in the student employment program. Nadine Garrett is the student employment manager.
