National Night Out set for August 3

July 23, 2010

Longwood Police

The Longwood University and Farmville police departments are asking the Town of Farmville and the Longwood community to participate in the 27th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The Farmville Police Department invites residents to celebrate the fight against crime by hosting neighborhood block parties that bring neighbors, communities and the police department together that evening. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness, develop and strengthen partnerships between police and residents, and generate support for anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Crime Solvers and Business Watch.

In support of this effort, the Longwood Police Department will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its headquarters in the basement of Dorrill Dining Hall, located on Redford Street. During the open house, all participants will be provided with a child ID kit while supplies last. When completed, the child ID kit, which is free, contains all the information needed by authorities to help reunite a missing child with their family.

To learn more about National Night Out block parties, contact the Farmville Police Department, and for more information about the Longwood Police Department open house, phone (434) 395-2091.
