2010 News Releases

A Moving Experience

August 22, 2010

Longwood students move in to the residence halls (2010)

Longwood University freshmen moved in Aug. 19, residents of the three university-managed apartment communities moved in Aug. 20-21, and all other students moved in Aug. 22.

Student organizations that helped with move-in included the Movers & Shakers and Peer Mentors, as well as resident assistants and the desk staff in residence halls. Also, for the third year, "hospitality tents," staffed by faculty and staff volunteers, provided assistance. There were more than 100 volunteers, and ARAMARK Catering pitched in with water and ice cream.

"Move-in always goes smoothly, but this year went especially smoothly," said Larry Robertson, associate dean of students & residential and commuter life.

Longwood's student body this fall includes about 1,020 freshmen and about 190 transfer students. Total fall enrollment is projected to be about 4,700-4,800. Fall semester classes will begin Aug. 23.
