Longwood students participate in Spring Into Health Wellness Fair at P.E. Middle School
April 14, 2011
Approximately 15 Longwood students representing various academic disciplines participated in the Spring Into Health Wellness Fair held recently at Prince Edward County Middle School. The event was organized by the Prince Edward County Healthy Weight Coalition, which includes Longwood faculty members, Dr. Matt Lucas, assistant professor of health and physical education, and Dr. Jo Morrison, assistant professor of exercise science.
Longwood students Brittany Long, a senior health and physical education major, and Jessica Miller, a senior exercise science major, coordinated Longwood's participation in the event that was partially funded through an Anthem Practicum grant, overseen by Dr. Chrys Kosarchyn, professor of health education. The Anthem Practicum in Health, Recreation, and Kinesiology is a pro-professional experience enabling students to be leaders in resolving community health issues. The Anthem endowment enables Longwood to place up to five students per year from HRK in rural communities in Southside Virginia to identify particular health education needs and research and recommend potential solutions.
