U.S. News and World Report - Best Public Colleges

For the 14th straight year, Longwood University is ranked among the best in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report survey. The new USN&WR "America's Best Colleges" report, released on September 13, ranks Longwood #10 in the category "Top Public Universities-Master's" in the South.  Among all Southern Universities-Master's (public and private) Longwood remains within the top tier at #29.

Longwood's graduate program in speech-language pathology is new to the publication's Best Grad School Rankings list. Ranked at #222, this is the first year that the newly accredited program has been eligible for the USN&WR rankings. Longwood's graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders earned accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology in fall 2010.

"I'm delighted that Longwood's speech-language pathology program has made it to the U.S. News & World Report ranking," said Dr. Lissa Power-deFur, director of the Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning and professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders. "The ranking was completed by graduate programs in fall 2010, which was coincident with the date of our initial accreditation as a graduate program.  I'm especially pleased to see that despite being the newest accredited program in the country, our peer institutions knew enough about Longwood and the quality of our curriculum and clinical experiences to rank us favorably."

Additionally, Longwood University is again one of the best colleges and universities in the Southeast according to The Princeton Review. The education services company recently selected Longwood as one of 135 institutions it recommends in its "Best in the Southeast" section of its 2012 Best Colleges: Region by Region survey.  And, for the second year, Longwood University is included as one of the best colleges in the United States in the Forbes 2011 list of America's Best Colleges.  The list of more than 600 undergraduate institutions, compiled with research from the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, is based on 11 factors measuring the quality of the education each school provides, the experiences of its students, and the achievements of its graduates.
