Longwood University

Dr. David Magill, assistant professor of English, will be featured on With Good Reason Feb. 18-25. The program will air on WMLU (91.3 FM) on Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Feb. 22 on WVTF (89.1 and 89.3 FM and online at www.wvtf.org).

The End of Men

On college campuses, female students continue to outnumber male students. Films like Knocked Up and television shows like Last Man Standing and How to be a Gentleman suggest that being a man in America is ever more difficult. Real American men, so the narrative goes, are disappearing. David Magill (LongwoodUniversity) explores the myths and realities of the male crisis. Also featured: As an English teacher inAtlanta, Joseph Jones (Radford University) recognized the damaging effects of homophobia among students in his classroom. He now wants to help other teachers address bullying. He's just written a new book called Making SafePlaces Unsafe: A Discussion of Homophobia with Teachers.
