Senior Lynne DeCora is Longwood University's Student Employee of the Year.

DeCora, who received the award April 15, has worked in the office of Conferences & Scheduling since the fall semester of her junior year. She is one of nearly 700 student employees at Longwood.

"Lynne is an exceptional employee," said her supervisor, Brandi Gulgas, scheduling coordinator for Conferences & Scheduling, who nominated her. "Her willingness to do what is needed to get the job done and done right the first time is commendable. Lynne is always professional, and I know I can count on her to deliver superior customer service when I am out of the office."

DeCora started as an intern in scheduling and worked during the summer of 2011 as a project coordinator with the summer staff team. This academic year, she resumed her position as an event specialist with the conference side of the office. She works an average of about 10 hours a week.

DeCora, a communication studies major from Virginia Beach, is involved with the communication studies honor fraternity Lambda Pi Eta, the Judicial Board and the Longwood Ambassadors and is a student blogger for the Admissions website, whylongwood.com. She is a graduate of Landstown High School and is the daughter of Joan and Mike DeCora. She will graduate May 12.

The award was presented during the annual Citizen Leaders student awards ceremony, which coincided with National Student Employment Week (April 8-13). Longwood's student employment program is coordinated by Nadine Garrett.
