Marine training exercises to take place in Farmville area through Jan. 19
January 13, 2012
If in the next few days you see an influx of U.S. Marines in the Farmville area, don't be alarmed. It's part of training exercises by Marines and Sailors of the Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The last training event in the Farmville area will be on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The training, which began Jan. 12 in the Farmville area and the Creeds section of Virginia Beach, is to help prepare the Marines for their deployment this spring. Farmville-area residents may see Marines and role players periodically throughout the exercises and are likely to notice more military aircraft and ground vehicles than usual operating in the area. The Marines will notify residents in the immediate area of the training sites by conducting house-to-house canvassing to ensure locals are notified prior to each event.
Local residents who have concerns about the training or questions about the noise of the aircraft should call a hotline at (434) 878-0124.
