The critically acclaimed film "Bamako" will be shown Wednesday, Feb. 20
February 20, 2008
Bamako, a critically acclaimed film that juxtaposes Africa's political and economic grievances with refined scenes of more mundane family struggles, will be shown Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, as part of the General Education Film Series (in addition to the French Festival; see below). Set in the West African nation of Mali, the film was produced by Danny Glover and won the Best Francophone Prize in 2007. The New York Times has called it a "disarmingly beautiful, fierce and unforgettable piece of political art that is also a haunting visual poem."
