Hull Springs Farm in the news
August 11, 2008
A story about a shoreline erosion-control project on the Lower Machodoc Creek at Hull Springs Farm was published in the Sunday 11 August 2008 edition of the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star. The story, “Project protects shore,” was written by Bill Freehling and includes photos of volunteers working on the project.
In 2005, Longwood University received a $40,500 grant from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to design the “Living Shoreline Project,” which is intended to create “an environmentally sound habitat that supports shorebirds, young fish, aquatic vegetation and other plant and wildlife species.” This year, Longwood received another $75,000 grant from NOAA to do the work.
