Chip Kidd, a graphic designer and writer living in New York City, will give a lecture and slide show Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in Bedford Auditorium. "An Evening with Chip Kidd" is sponsored by the Department of Art through funding from the Virginia Arts Council and with help from the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts.
Kidd's book jacket designs for the Alfred A. Knopf publishing house, where he worked for more than 13 years, have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. His work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Entertainment Weekly, The New Republic, Time, The New York Times, and other publications, and he is a regular contributor of visual commentary to the op-ed page of The New York Times. Copies of Kidd's books, The Cheese Monkeys, The Learners, and Bat-Manga!, will be available for purchase and signing after the event.
