"What was it like to be one of the first," a program in which two African-American alumni from the 1970s will discuss their experiences during the early years of Longwood University's integration, will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in Hiner Auditorium.
One of the alumni is Allie Yarbrough (B.S. '78, M.S. '82), co-principal of Prince Edward County High School. Yarbrough is the widow of Jimmy Yarbrough, also a Longwood alumnus, who was associate director of Admissions and one of Longwood's most beloved employees. The other alumna is Elvira Ford (B.S. '74), dean of students at Amelia County Middle School.
The program, part of African-American History Month, is sponsored by the Lambda Delta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
