April 1, 2009
Dr. Rhonda Brock-Servais, associate professor of English and chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, will give a talk Wednesday, April 1, at 3 p.m. in Greenwood Library 147 on "My Love! My Vampire! My Pedophile?!" The presentation is related to her longtime research on young adult horror literature. For about the past year, her research has included two Longwood undergraduates, Megan Thompson and Ashley Ayash, who will present their research the International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts, March 19-21 in Orlando. "I have been looking into vampire romance novels, and Megan and Ashley have been looking at the changing nature of the vampire archetype," Dr. Brock-Servais said. "The first thing we did in the project was to compile of bibliography, in which we found that more than 40 young adult horror novels have been published since 1990." The presentation is part of both the WGS program and Women's History Month.
