Funding, Membership and CVW's Tax Status

Clean Virginia Waterways' various projects are funded by grants from foundations, businesses, government agencies and gifts from concerned citizens. Since 1999, Clean Virginia Waterways (CVW) has been a statewide, nonprofit, educational program of Longwood University, a state university that has 501(c)(3) status.  All donations to CVW are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. CVW follows the University's fiscal processes, and meets all the University's fiscal regulations. CVW's accounts are audited every year as part of the University's audit.

In addition to having 501(c)(3) status through the University, CVW is also incorporated as a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation in Virginia.  CVW is governed by a Board of Directors.

CVW has no formal membership dues, but donations are very appreciated and will go directly to supporting our programs. Because of our affiliation with Longwood University, which provides office space and in-kind support, CVW is extremely efficient with all donated money. Anyone can be part of CVW by donating time to the Cleanups or other activities. To volunteer for a Cleanup, see our cleanup site list. Or, to organize a cleanup event, see Site Captain Duties.

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution

Contributions are always welcomed and are tax deductible. Since Longwood University provides office space to CVW, every dollar donated is put directly to work on CVW's educational and stewardship projects -- not to paying "overhead" expenses. Please call 434-395-2602 or send an email to cleanva@longwood.edu for more information on how you or your business can support the work of Clean Virginia Waterways through a donation. Thank you!
