STUDENT
MILITARY MOBILIZATION POLICY
I. PURPOSE
To establish policies and guidelines which govern students
called to active military duty during a national emergency.
II. APPLICABILITY
These guidelines shall apply to all persons whose active
military duty or mobilization requires their sudden withdrawal or prolonged
absence from Longwood University after January 1, 1990.
III. POLICY
A student who is called to active military duty or whose
military unit is mobilized during a national emergency must present their active
duty orders to their college dean. The dean will then assist the student to
select one of the following options.
A. Options:
1.
Withdrawal From
School: The student may withdraw from Longwood. If the student elects this option no credit may be awarded for any
courses. The student shall receive a full refund of all tuition and course
fees.
2. Incomplete Grades: The student may elect to take incompletes in all
classes. If the student elects this option no refund of tuition or fees will
be made. Upon completion of military service, the student shall have one year
to re-enroll at Longwood University. The student must complete all instructor's
requirements in order to receive credit. The time for removing incompletes may
be extended up to one (1) year after re-enrolling at
Longwood.
3. Withdrawal During Last Four Weeks of Class: The student may elect with
each instructor's approval to receive credit for the course based on the work
completed prior to withdrawing. Students may elect to be withdrawn from courses in which the instructor does not agree to determine a grade based on
already completed work. Should the student choose this option tuition and fees
will be prorated based on the number of hours of credit earned. Students may
elect to receive an incomplete for courses in which the instructor does not agree
to provide a grade based on the work already completed. If the student elects to
receive incompletes no refund of tuition and fees will be given.
The student must elect either to receive all incompletes or be withdrawn from all
courses in which grades will not be given.
B. Impact: Regardless of which option the student elects, the student
shall:
1. Receive a prorated refund for room and board.
2. Receive a complete refund or crediting of all deposits.
3. Be readmitted to the University upon notifying the Admissions Office of their
intent to return.
4. Receive no refund for textbooks.
5. Outstanding fines, damage charges or fees will be deducted from any refund due
to the student.
IV. PROCEDURE
All students who have been called to active duty must complete
the regular Longwood University exit process.
Revised and approved by the Board of Visitors, September 7, 2002.
