Blood Borne Pathogens & TB Training

  Friday, May 9, 2003  
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Location:  Lankford, C Room; 
Target Audience: Longwood University Staff
Maximum Attendance: 25

This training will give the participant a working knowledge of communicable diseases and an understanding of the importance of infection control practices, compliance and reporting.

Topics covered:

OSHA requirements, CDC guidelines and myths, employee and employer obligations, the disease process, disease-transmission, workplace infection control procedures and post-exposure evaluation and management.

Upon completion participants will:

-
Recognize the situations that pose a risk for exposure
- Understand appropriate measures for personal protection
- Understand the appropriate steps to take if an unprotected workplace exposure occurs
- Have a working knowledge of the blood borne diseases that pose an occupational health risk
- Have a working knowledge of the body fluids that pose a risk of the workplace disease transmission
 - Be familiar with the infection control concept adopted by the institution
