Selected items from the Greenwood Library's Special Collections are located on the main floor of the Library in the reserve area behind the Circulation/Reserve Desk. The following collections are included:
- A fragile book collection
- College/university yearbooks
- College/university catalogs
- Books related to local history
The stacks in this area are closed, and materials from this collection may only be used in-house. Items in this collection have a location of "Selected Coll./Reserves" in the library catalog. During regular Library hours, a staff member at the Circulation/Reserve Desk will retrieve books requested by the researcher for use in the Library, in accordance with the following policy and procedures:
- All researchers must go to the Circulation/Reserve Desk to request materials.
- Researchers who are currently affiliated with Longwood University or who have established borrowing privileges with the Greenwood Library must checkout the materials for in-house use only with the staff member at the desk.
- Researchers who are not affiliated with the University must leave a valid ID with the staff member at the Circulation/Reserve Desk while using these materials.
- IDs will be retained at the Circulation/Reserve Desk and returned when the items have been returned to the Circulation/Reserve Desk.
- Researchers must work at one of the tables located in the Atrium or area specified by staff (fragile materials may have to be viewed in the Circulation/Reserve work area).
- Researchers may not have food or drink at the table while using materials from Selected Special Collections.
- Care must be used when handling materials. Pencils only—no pens or markers—may be used when taking notes.
- Not all materials can be photocopied. Copying will be done as determined by the condition of the material.
- When items are returned, the staff member will check the item in and/or return the ID to the researcher.
