 First Prize:  $1,000 Study Abroad Scholarship
Second Prize:  $500 Study Abroad Scholarship 

Topic:  Why Study Abroad?

Submission Deadline:  February 1, 2010

Who is eligible:  Longwood University students

Contest Objectives:
Longwood University is committed to increasing the number of students who study abroad, especially in semester-length programs.  The winning entry will be incorporated into the “Why Study Abroad?” page on the Study Abroad Website.

Read a winning essay  

How to enter:

1.  Read the Contest Guidelines.  This is very important.

2.  Create a convincing essay, article or web-page of 500 words or less answering the question, “Why Study Abroad?” in which you address some or all of the following points:  personal benefits to individual students who study abroad; benefits to society, to our nation or to the world; and how study abroad may affect academic progress or personal goals.  Submit it by e-mail attachment to:  goetzla@longwood.edu  by February 1, 2010.

3.  Print and complete the Entry Form and submit it on paper by February 1, 2010, to:

Winners will be announced on the Study Abroad website on or around February 15, 2010, and will be notified by e-mail.  The awards will be presented at the Longwood University Scholarship and Awards Banquet in April, 2010. 

Winning entries will be used to promote study abroad on the Longwood University Study Abroad website. 

Study Abroad Scholarships must be used for study abroad for which academic credit is received, and must take place before the winner graduates from Longwood University.
