Why Study
Abroad? Scholarship Contest 2009:
Longwood University Study Abroad Scholarships:
· All students who
study abroad for at least a semester may apply for a $1,000 Study
Abroad Scholarship.
·
All students who
study abroad for a half semester (student teachers) or for summer
sessions in individual programs of at least 4 weeks may apply for a $500
Study Abroad Scholarship.
· Students who
participate in short-term study abroad programs (2 to 4 weeks) may apply
for a $500 Short-Term Study Abroad Scholarships. · Modern Language Presidential Scholarships: There are five available $2,000 scholarships for semester study abroad programs. These are reserved for Modern Language Majors. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must submit a 300-word essay in English as a part of the application process. Deadlines: May 1 for fall or spring of next academic year. Print the requirements & application form · Honors program students are eligible for additional scholarships. Contact the Honors program office for details. **Applications for all the above scholarships are available in the racks outside the Office of International Affairs, Ruffner 146. Instructions include completing the application form and submitting an essay addressing how the study abroad experience will benefit your total academic program and your future.

· Gilman
Scholarships The Gilman Scholarship provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students at two- and four-year institutions to pursue country-based undergraduate opportunities abroad of up to one academic year. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a US State Department Travel Warning or in Cuba. Summer Institutes: · Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society: Thirty-eight $1,000 study abroad scholarships are awarded each year. Students must have a minimum of 56 credit hours, but no more than 90 by the deadline. A GPA of 3.5 is required and students must have two remaining semesters at home upon return.
