Text Box: HAN was created in 1996 in the twin cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen (only 9 miles apart)  which accommodate HAN University of Applied Sciences, one of the fastest growing universities in the Netherlands. Two modern city campuses facilitate the exchange of knowledge between more than 27,000 students, including 2,100 international students. HAN University is situated in the picturesque eastern Netherlands, near the German border.  Exchange students will be participating in the “Tomorrow’s Education Today” program, in which English will be the language of instruction. The program will utilize the insight and knowledge of Dutch lecturers as well as visiting international lecturers, who will coach student on new educational issues, challenging approaches and teaching strategies.

Text Box: Exchange students will be housed in HAN University sponsored housing on the Arnhem campus during the fall semester or the Nijmegen campus if attending during the spring semester.  Housing costs will be paid to HAN.

Text Box: Eligible students must apply to the Longwood  study abroad program using forms available in the Office of International Affairs (Ruffner 146). The deadline for Fall Semester is March 1 and for spring semester,    October 1.
 
 

Text Box: The program is open to Liberal Studies majors.  To be admitted to the program students must have a  minimum 2.5 GPA or better.

Text Box:  How to Apply

Text Box:  Students pay regular Longwood tuition and fees, and do not pay any fees to HAN other than for room and board. Longwood students pay a $250 study abroad administrative fee upon acceptance. Participation in this program will waive the Longwood goal nine requirement.  Scholarships are available.

Text Box: Academic Programs

Text Box: All courses and practica in the “Tomorrow’s Education Today” program will be conducted in English.  The  program will include 16 credits toward Liberal Studies major requirements, and a practicum placement.  Possible course subjects include: educational issues, Dutch culture and society, adaptive education, music, drama, sociology, teacher attitudes, psychical education,  special education, etc. The program will also include a “Cultural Tour of the West” which will include visits to Rotterdam, The Hague and more.
