Admission Requirements

Longwood takes a holistic approach in making admissions decisions, considering not only grades and test scores but also academic rigor of the high-school program, extracurricular activities and other relevant factors including:

  • Cumulative GPA
  • Class rank (if available)
  • Consistency and trends of grades
  • GED scores (if applicable)

Test-Optional for Fall 2024:

Students applying for fall 2024 admission to majors other than nursing are not required to submit an SAT/ACT score. For those who choose to submit a score, the highest critical reading and math scores from the SAT will be evaluated. The Writing score is not considered for admission.

Nursing applicants are required to submit scores. 

Accepted Students at a Glance:

  • Mid-range GPA: 3.35 – 4.02
  • Mid-range SAT: 1040 – 1230
  • Mid-range ACT: 21 – 27

A competitive applicant’s coursework includes:

English 4 years
Math 3 years- Algebra I, Algebra II, & Geometry
Science 3 years- Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, Earth Science (2 units must include a lab)
History/ Social Studies 3 years
Foreign Language 2 years of one foreign language (additional years of one language strongly recommended)
Health/ Physical Education 2 years
Fine or Practical Arts 1 year

The Advanced Studies Diploma (23 units) is preferred for students in Virginia.

Additional years of Math, Science and Foreign Language are strongly recommended.
