A regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Longwood University Alumni Board was called to order at 9:15 a.m. by President Tammy Jones on Saturday, June 8, 2019 in the Martinelli Board Room at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

Directors Absent: Mandi Mulholland

Greetings – Ms. Tammy Jones
- Thank you to OACS and Board members for attending Senior Toast and Alumni Weekend
- Thank you to Ms. Shelton for setting up FACES volunteer opportunity

Guest Speaker – Mr. Justin Pope, Chief of Staff
- Big year at Longwood with launch of Brock Experiences, Civitae, great long term movement
- Campus planning goal is to knit together Longwood with the town and focus on turning the campus back outward to the community – starting to see that with new sidewalks and gateways and will really come to life with completed renovations of Curry/Fraser
- Exciting news about the new convocation center started with a 15 million dollar gift from Joan Brock – important so entire student body can fit in the same space together --- Also new Music/Education Center coming thanks to hard work in the General Assembly – only project that got approval to move forward with planning and design – hope is to attract more music students


Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the March 16, 2019 meeting were distributed and reviewed. Ms. Jones requested a motion to approve the minutes.

Action No. 1: A motion was made by Mr. Davis and seconded by Ms. Margrave approving the minutes of the March 16, 2019 Board meeting.

President’s Report – Ms. Tammy Jones
- New admissions building opening this fall, new academic building fall 2020
- During Alumni Weekend the Longwood Love Stories event was held at Catbird with 10% of all profit contributed going to the Longwood Cares Fund
- Ring Ceremony went well – having lunch with students is great
- Day of Giving (LYLD) 4th annual was on 3/27 – 25 departments participated from across campus with 100 digital ambassadors yielding almost 2,800 gifts
- Senior Toast was fun – felt like we had done it for years even though it was the first time

Vice President’s Report – Mr. Dale Baake
- Foundation Board scholarship given out second year in a row
- During LYLD $16,000 was raised to go into the Longwood Cares Emergency Fund
- Foundation Board will meet next week at Hull Springs Farm for meeting
- CBE Golf Tournament will be 10/19 – to be held at Chesdin Landing Golf Course

Treasurer’s Report – Mr. Ryan Catherwood
- Ring sales down YOY due to marketing challenges with parent data as well as OACS miscues
- Revenues up YOY for Career Fairs
- Raised almost $1,000 for the Career Development Fund from LYLD

Committee Reports

Board Relations – Dale Baake
- Tammy welcomed new board members (phone call). They will have first meeting in Sept.
- Nominations for next year are about demographics, activities, donations

Alumni Events – Becca Shelton
- New ideas are welcomed – those that want to serve on Alumni Events Committee are encouraged
- Will talk with Juanita Giles about VA Children’s Book Festival

Alumni Awards – Chris Davis
- Please make sure to contribute nominations and plan to be here during the March meeting

Structure and Function – Byron Bracey

Six sections of the Constitution and By-laws were distributed in advance of the meeting. All sections were edited to reflect changes to job titles as well as to introduce the new Secretary position

Action No. 2: Mr. Bracey asked for a motion to approve the six changes to the constitution and by-laws. Mr. Davis made the motion which was seconded by Ms. Brown. The motion was approved.

OACS Update – Ryan Catherwood
- Working on Alumni Award nominations
- Collecting feedback on Alumni Weekend and Senior Toast
- New professional communities on Slack for Educators, Sales/Mar/Comm, and IT/Product
