Do you work in the publishing industry or know someone who does? Senior Isabella Corbo ‘20 would love your advice about how her love for writing and editing can be put to good use. Isabella imagines a career where she can help authors share their stories and what options there may be for entering this exciting field.

Isabella is a senior graduating in December and looking for an entry-level position. She’s an English major and will graduate with a minor in Rhetoric and Professional Writing. Isabella has always loved writing, editing, and helping others find their voice through the creative process. Her favorite class at Longwood was ENGL461: Senior Seminar with Dr. Sean Berry. She says of Dr. Berry’s class, “Although it was a struggle sometimes, I was able to become a better writer and a better researcher. My comprehension of the texts grew and my analysis became something new and untapped.”

Isabella selected Longwood because of its small community and shared traditions. She’s a big fan of the family-style Thanksgiving Dinner and CHI walks. Isabella is heavily involved on campus. She’s the former General Manager of WMLU 93.1FM and the Copy Editor for the Rotunda. In addition, Isabella had a great internship at the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, SC, where she received training as a staff writer with focus on law, current legal issues, and legislature.

Helping others is one of Isabella’s key professional drivers. She believes that we’re never done growing, and that we should all strive to continue to work harder and do better. Thinking about future success, Isabella noted “success to me is being happy in all aspects of my life: with my work, my mental health, with my choices and the people and things I surround myself. Even on bad days where I’m stressed, success for me lies in finding the little things that make me happy.”

Isabella is excited to connect with alumni in with knowledge of the publishing field. Her academic coursework, campus experiences at WMLU 93.1FM and the Rotunda, and passion for writing and editing make Isabella an exciting candidate for work opportunities where she can practice her craft.

Consider connecting with Isabella on Linkedin and share your advice or any job opportunities that may be available to her after she graduates next month.
