Alumni Weekend Will Bring Hundreds of Alumni to Campus

All alumni, including graduates from the Class of 2022, are invited back to campus for Alumni Weekend, the major alumni event on campus for all alumni, with special events planned for individual decades of graduates. Programming will focus on a great experience for alumni to reconnect with classmates and enjoy time back at their alma mater, but also network with alumni across generations. Organizers hope the mix of old and new alumni will strengthen bonds between alumni and campus.

“We are creating a kind of special sauce on campus where alumni of all ages are coming together for a unique and meaningful experience,” said Nicole Perkins ’05, director of alumni engagement. “We’re going to celebrate with the hundreds of alumni who are returning to campus just as we have in the past.”

Longwood’s Alumni Weekend will be held on campus from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5. The weekend will include live entertainment; food and drinks; a hard hat tour of the Joan Perry Brock Center, the new home of Longwood Lancers Basketball; campus tours; and opportunities to explore downtown Farmville.

“This year, I think alumni will be very interested in exploring Farmville to see how much our town has changed in the past few years,” said Perkins. “In addition to new dining options like One19, the taco and tequila restaurant right on Main Street, the Weyanoke Hotel will be open with new restaurants and a stunning rooftop bar. There’s real momentum in Farmville that we want alumni to feel a part of.”

The Saturday afternoon centerpiece, the traditional class parade, will bring together alumni of all ages to process from Stubbs Lawn to Lancaster Lawn. Those wishing to participate will engage in an alumni version of Color Wars (formerly known as Paint Battle), the longtime Longwood tradition.

As in previous years, many alumni will stay in on-campus residence halls, further re-creating the college feel that brings memories flooding back.
