Prospective Students and Parents

The number of art majors has grown since 1998 from 90 to over 200. In addition we have over 60 minors. In 1998 we had seven full time faculty members. In 2005 we have 8.5 Full time faculty members. All of this is to say we have a finite number of sections of classes we can offer. We cannot offer every course every semester, so we have a published rotation of classes. Students need to be aware of this rotation, and plan their schedules according to this rotation.

Students also need to meet with their academic advisor every semester. This will ensure they understand what courses are being offered, and what courses they should be taking.

In addition we find that many students want to graduate by a certain date. Any student entering as a freshman, who has been to their advisor should have little problem graduating in four years. However transfer students, students who change their major, and students who fail courses or take courses out of sequence run the very real risk of not being able to graduate by their schedule, particularly in the Graphic Design concentration.

Students should familiarize themselves with this course rotation table. It shows when classes required for graduation are being offered in the Art Department. Students may use this table to plan when they should take classes required in their major and area of concentration. Students are strongly encouraged to plan their class schedules before they meet with their advisor.
