SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Longwood University women’s basketball team dropped a hard fought road contest against BIG?EAST?conference member Syracuse on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Orange 72-40. The Lancers fall to 2-4 on the season, while the Orange improve to 5-2. Senior Amber Sims/Lawrenceville (Brunswick Senior) and freshmen Kayla Loughner/Brinkslow, Md. (Good Counsel) and Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) led Longwood in scoring with six points each. Longwood returns home for its next matchup, hosting George Mason on Thursday, December 4 at 7 p.m. in Willett Hall.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood University took a 69-65 men’s basketball victory past Delaware State University Saturday for seventh-place during the 2008 Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lancers (4-4) were led by redshirt-junior Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior Billy Robinson Jr./Columbia, Md. (Hammond) added season-highs of 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The Hornets of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (1-8) were led by Frisco Sandidge with 21 points. Longwood will play again on Wednesday, December 3, hosting James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association at Willett Hall in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m..

Freshman Brittanni Billups was tied for a game-high 15 points and five rebounds. Brooke Long knocked down 11 baskets for the Lancers, while also pulling down four rebounds.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood University dropped an 81-77 men’s basketball decision to Southeast Missouri State University Friday afternoon during a third-round game of the 2008 Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lancers (3-4) were led by redshirt-junior Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with a career-high and game-high 26 points, adding nine rebounds. The Redhawks of the Ohio Valley Conference (2-3) were led by 6-9, 220-pound Calvin Williams with 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Longwood will play again on Saturday, November 29, against Delaware State University at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 2:30 p.m. ET.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Longwood University will play Southeast Missouri State University in men's basketball Friday afternoon, November 28, at 4 p.m. during the 2008 Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena. The Lancers (3-3) and Redhawks (1-3) are meeting for the second-straight season as SEMO won last year's contest in the Chicago Invitational Challenge (82-78). Longwood is coached by sixth-year head coach Mike Gillian, and will be led by 6-5, 225-pound redshirt-junior guard/forward Dana Smith who is averaging 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds. Southeast Missouri State is coached by first-year acting head coach Zac Roman and is led by 6-0 senior guard Kenard Moore (16.5 points). FARMVILLE. Va. - Joel Helmick/Springfield (W.T. Woodson) of the Longwood University men’s soccer team was named the 2008 Atlantic Soccer Conference All-Tournament Most Valuable Player as voted on by the league coaches. Helmick receives the honor after being named the ASC?Rookie of the Year by the conference coaches on November 14. The 6-3 freshman played in both of the Lancers tournament games, only allowing one goal and making six saves for a 0.45 goals against average.

The Lancers (3-3) were led by senior Ryan Bogan/Oxford, Pa. (Harcum JC) with 20 points and redshirt-junior Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with 18 points. The Wildcats of the Southeastern Conference (2-2) were led by 6-9, 235-pound Patrick Patterson with a game-high double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds. Longwood will play again on Friday, November 28, against Southeast Missouri State University at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 4 p.m..
