LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Longwood University dropped an 81-77 men’s basketball decision to Southeast Missouri State University Friday afternoon during a third-round game of the 2008 Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The Lancers (3-4) were led by redshirt-junior Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with a career-high and game-high 26 points, adding nine rebounds.  The Redhawks of the Ohio Valley Conference (2-3) were led by 6-9, 220-pound Calvin Williams with 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Longwood will play again on Saturday, November 29, against Delaware State University at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 2:30 p.m. ET.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Longwood University will play Southeast Missouri State University in men's basketball Friday afternoon, November 28, at 4 p.m. during the 2008 Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena.  The Lancers (3-3) and Redhawks (1-3) are meeting for the second-straight season as SEMO won last year's contest in the Chicago Invitational Challenge (82-78).  Longwood is coached by sixth-year head coach Mike Gillian, and will be led by 6-5, 225-pound redshirt-junior guard/forward Dana Smith who is averaging 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds.  Southeast Missouri State is coached by first-year acting head coach Zac Roman and is led by 6-0 senior guard Kenard Moore (16.5 points).  The game can be heard locally on Kickin' Country 92.9 FM as well as on the Internet via TEAMLINE [link at right].

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team fell to Atlantic 10 Conference member Richmond 72-47 on Tuesday night in Willett Hall. The Lancers fall to 2-3 on the season, while Richmond continues its unbeaten streak to improve to 4-0. Freshman Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) was tied for a game-high 15 points and game-high five rebounds. Longwood heads on the road for its next contest, facing BIG EAST conference member Syracuse in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday, November 30. Tip-Off is set for 1 p.m.

FARMVILLE. Va. - Joel Helmick/Springfield (W.T. Woodson) of the Longwood University men’s soccer team was named the 2008 Atlantic Soccer Conference All-Tournament Most Valuable Player as voted on by the league coaches. Helmick receives the honor after being named the ASC?Rookie of the Year by the conference coaches on November 14. The 6-3 freshman played in both of the Lancers tournament games, only allowing one goal and making six saves for a 0.45 goals against average.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Longwood University dropped a 91-57 men’s basketball decision on the road at the University of Kentucky Monday night during a second-round game of the Findlay Toyota/Las Vegas Invitational at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.  The Lancers (3-3) were led by senior Ryan Bogan/Oxford, Pa. (Harcum JC) with 20 points and redshirt-junior Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with 18 points.  The Wildcats of the Southeastern Conference (2-2) were led by 6-9, 235-pound Patrick Patterson with a game-high double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds.  Longwood will play again on Friday, November 28, against Southeast Missouri State University at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 4 p.m..

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Lancers head into their game against Richmond after dropping its road contest against Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell, 53-42, on Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C. Sophomore Cierra Baker led the Lancers in points, knocking down eight baskets. Senior Anna Steg was the teams leading rebounder, grabbing six (two offensive, four defensive).
