BIOLOGY Longwood offers diverse opportunities for students interested in all areas of biology. Students pursuing a biology major select a specialization from several options, including ecology, organismal biology, and molecular biology. For students interested in medically oriented careers, we offer a health-track specialization that is tailored to prepare students for application to medical, dental, veterinary, and physical therapy schools, among others. Additionally, students in our biology program have the option of adding certification as a secondary science teacher to a biology major. Regardless of the specialization you choose, you will benefit from Longwood’s rich General Education program, which includes a requirement for an internship or research experience, as well as an exciting and rewarding major program. Longwood provides excellent preparation for students in all of our
science majors through: · Continuous academic advising and contact with recognized faculty · Courses (lectures and laboratories) taught by full-time, degreed faculty · Support and mentorship of undergraduate research projects and internships · Providing opportunities for outside speakers to engage discussions of current importance · New teaching and learning facilities that include the best educational technology currently available and dedicated space for undergraduate research projects
