The College of Business and Economics (CBE)

offers the following scholarships to qualified

applicants.  Please click on the following

hyperlinks for more information regarding each

individual scholarship.

 

Scholarship applications are accepted during

February and are due by February 14 to Hiner 105-1. 

CBE students may apply for all scholarships for which they meet the criteria.

Description

Suzanne and Suzie Arena Memorial ($2,000)

Arena Scholarship Description

Arena Scholarship Application

Established by Frank Arena in memory of his wife and daughter, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding business or economics major (3.5 GPA or above) who shows unusual promise and leadership potential.

 

Jimmy Gayle Atkins Memorial ($1,400)

Atkins Scholarship Description

Atkins Scholarship Application

Given by the Landon G. Atkins family in memory of their son, this scholarship is awarded to a rising junior business or economics major with a career interest in real estate.

 

BB&T ($1,300)

BB&T Scholarship Description

BB&T Scholarship Application

Established by BB&T Bank and is given to an outstanding business or economics major (3.5 GPA or above) who shows unusual promise and leadership potential.

 

Beta Gamma Sigma ($1,000)

Beta Gamma Sigma Description

Beta Gamma Sigma Application

Each year, Longwood qualifies to award this scholarship to one current Beta Gamma Sigma member or student who has been invited to become a member (contingent upon acceptance of the membership invitation).     

 

Butler ($800)

To be awarded to a first-year business or economics major who has at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and shows unusual academic promise and leadership potential.

 

Evelyn M. Coleman ($2,200)

Coleman Scholarship Description

Coleman Scholarship Application

Given in honor of Mrs. Coleman’s forty years of service to Longwood, this scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior business or economics major who exemplifies Mrs. Coleman’s dedicated service to school, college and community.

 

College of Business and Economics ($2,000)

To be awarded to a first-year business or economics major who has at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and shows unusual academic promise and leadership potential.

 

William G. McGowan (full tuition)

William G. McGowan Scholarship Description

William G. McGowan Scholarship Application

Funded through the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, Inc., this is a full-tuition scholarship given to a rising senior who has at least a 3.5 GPA and unusual promise and leadership potential.

 

Miller Memorial ($2,500)

Established by the family of Harriett Butterworth Miller and William Tomlinson Miller, this scholarship is given to an outstanding business or economics major (3.5 GPA or above) who shows unusual promise and leadership potential.

 

Andrew O’Brien Memorial ($1,200)

O'Brien Scholarship Description

O'Brien Scholarship Application

Established by Andrew’s family and friends, this scholarship is awarded to a student who has a declared major/concentration in accounting, business education, or economics and who exemplifies Andrew’s dedicated service to school, college and community.

 

Siddons/Bailey ($1,200)

Siddons/Bailey Scholarship Application

 

Established by the families of Louise Haskins Hawthrone Siddons, a 1924 graduate, and Mary Pickett Wilson Bailey who attended Longwood in 1922, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding business or economics major (3.5 GPA or above) who shows unusual promise and leadership potential.

 

In addition, the College of Business & Economics awards the following scholarships to students who meet the criteria. Students do not have to apply for the following scholarships.

 

Carr Scholarship ($2,000), established by John E. Carr, III, a retired accounting faculty member, is awarded by the accounting faculty to an outstanding rising senior in accounting who shows great potential for an accounting career.

 

DeBoer Scholarship ($1,800), given by Jay Christopher DeBoer’s family and friends, is awarded to a business or economics major who is a member of the men’s or women’s golf team and exemplifies Chris’ commitment to academics and athletics.

 

Fox Scholarship ($4,000), established by the College of Business & Economics Corporate Advisory Board and friends and family of Paul and Frances Fox, is awarded to an incoming business or economics student with at least a 3.25 high school GPA and a minimum of 1150 on the SAT (or the equivalent on ACT).  This scholarship was named in memory of Mrs. Frances Fox and in honor Mr. Paul Fox, a member of the Corporate Advisory Board since its inception in 1992, and a passionate supporter of the College of Business and Economics.

 

Hubbard Scholarship ($800), established by Hubbard Peanut Company in Sedley, Virginia, in memory of Mrs. Hubbard, class of 1947, is awarded to an incoming business or economics student with at least a 3.25 high school GPA and a minimum of 1000 on the SAT (or the equivalent on ACT).  First preference will be given to a student from Franklin, Southampton County, Virginia.

 

Jacques/Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship ($1000) was established by Delta Sigma Pi to honor Dr. James Wilfred “Jack” Jacques, the first dean of the School of Business and Economics. It is awarded to the member of the Kappa Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi who earned the most points based on grade point average and service to the business fraternity.

 

Redmond ($1,100), Norma Redmond Memorial Scholarship, established by Thomas H. Redmond and Ruby E. Redmond in memory of their daughter (class of 1975), is awarded to an incoming business or economics student with at least a 3.25 high school GPA and a minimum of 1000 on the SAT (or the equivalent on ACT).  First preference will be given to a student from Lunenburg County, Virginia.

 

Wachovia Bank Minority Scholarship ($1,200) is awarded to an outstanding minority student majoring in business or economics who has at least a 3.0 grade point average and is a resident of Virginia.
