Mission
The mission of the Call Me MISTER (acronym for Men
Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) National Initiative
is to
increase the pool of available teachers
from a broader, more diverse background,
particularly among the State's lowest performing elementary schools.
Program participants are largely selected from among under-served,
socio- economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.
To maximize opportunity and greater access, students will have the
option of first attending one of our partner schools or colleges before
transferring to Longwood to complete their program of study in teacher
education and baccalaureate degree. In some cases, the program may allow
enrollment in a Master of Teaching degree program leading to initial
certification. It is expected that a MISTER who completes his program of
study and becomes certified to teach will assume a teaching position and
teach one year for each year they received financial support from the
Call Me MISTER program.
Longwood Call Me MISTER
Pledge:
From the time I was created, I was made to
be a LEADER.
Since the day I was born, I have been a
man of influence.
I am a LEADER because of what’s inside of
me.
I am on the path to my calling because I
have vision;
I am focused;
I know my history and
I am prepared to serve.
So when you address me, do not minimize my
destiny, but please, please celebrate my
GREAT CALLING!
