Public History

It is because of Public History that Longwood's Colonnades and beloved Rotunda are able to be renovated and restored.  Public History incorporates archival administration, museum work, historical editing, archeology, historic preservation, national park service work, and art history among others, to provide majors with knowledge to discover various fields of interest.  Through the application and practice of history and its various aspects, Longwood's Public History majors have many opportunities for job placement post-graduation.  Knowledge of the past enables individuals to develop pride and appreciation for the accomplishments of others.  Public History majors use their knowledge of past political, social, and economical problems to present to the public and preserve history for the future.

Thomas Jefferson- "History, by appraising. ..[the students] of the past, will enable them to judge of the future.
