Student Alumni Networking Event (SANE)-
Information for Students

Students speaking with SANE participant

What is SANE?
One of the most valuable resources we offer you is the opportunity to network with previous graduates of Longwood. The Student-Alumni Networking Event (SANE) is an annual event where alums return to campus specifically to speak with current students. They come to share their academic and career related experiences with you and are available to answer whatever questions you might have. Want to know where a successful marketing major did their internship? Want to know the starting salary of someone in public relations? Want to know what the weather is like in the southwest? Whatever your question, just find an Alum and ask!

Date: Friday, February 20, 2009

Time: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Location:
Lankford Ball Room

What to expect:
This is basically a social networking opportunity. There won't be formal speeches or presentations. Alums will simply be stationed at tables where you can introduce yourself and ask your questions.

How to prepare:
While the set-up and concept of this event are simple, it is going to take some effort on your part to make it meaningful to you. Here are a few recommendations on how to prepare to get the most out of this opportunity:

  1. Do your homework: Check out the list of Alumni who have registered to attend as well as their major and current occupation. This will give you an idea of who is coming that you might like to speak with.

  2. Develop a list of questions: If you come up with a list of questions before hand, it will be easier to make sure you get all of the information you are looking for that day.

  3.  Think outside the box: Keep in mind that there may not be an alum from the specific company you want to work. However, you can still get valuable information from other individuals working in your career field of interest. Likewise, think beyond the company name. For example, in addition to sales people a retail company may also need individuals with a background in finance, accounting, management, marketing, public relations, graphic design, web development, security, etc.

  4. Review the Networking & Informational Interviewing Handout

How do I sign up to attend?
