Welcome
to the Department of Social Work and Communication Sciences and
Disorders. After many years as programs within the Department of
Education, Special Education, Social Work and Communications
Disorders, our new department officially began July 1, 2007. We are
the manifestation of a vision of innovative growth and excellence
in the College of Education and Human Services and in the Longwood
University community. During the 2007-2008 academic year the
department will develop a mission and an infrastructure that take
into account all of its constituents, especially our students—our
future citizen leaders. At the very least, this will mean building
a foundation that will allow faculty and staff to excel in the
kinds of teaching, research and service that address the growing
demands of the world around us both near and far—locally,
regionally, nationally, and globally. As we begin our first year,
we invite you to visit us to ask questions and collect information,
or to share your thoughts and ideas. Again, welcome!
