Communication Sciences and Disorders
What is distinctive about
Longwood’s program?
The Communication Sciences and Disorders
program at Longwood University offers
small classes with individualized
attention from faculty.
The curriculum offers excellent
preparation for graduate school. The
program has high academic standards, with
a 2.75 minimum GPA for students to enter
the upper level Communication Sciences and
Disorders courses. The undergraduate
courses in the major and in other
disciplines provide excellent preparation
for students pursing a graduate program in
Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology or
other related field. During their last
semester, students complete 25 hours of
guided observation, accumulating these
hours toward the clinical experience
required for national certification.

Here’s what Longwood graduates have to say
about the Communication Sciences and
Disorders program:
"Choosing a college that had classes that
were small was one of the best decisions
that I ever made. It was wonderful to have
teachers know me professionally as well as
personally. My teachers genuinely cared
how I was doing not only as a student, but
as a person. Specifically I chose
Speech-Language Pathology because I wanted
to be in a profession where I could help
people with one of the most basic and most
important skills, communication." Lauren

Physiology and Neuroanatomy classes.
"The program at Longwood completely
prepared me for my graduate work. The
courses that I took at Longwood laid a
very firm foundation in Communication
Sciences and Disorders for me which made
graduate school run much more smoothly.
The teachers at Longwood were absolutely
incredible. They took a personal interest
in each of their students and genuinely
cared about the success that we had. They
went above and beyond the call of duty
with helping each of us reach our goals
including extra help in classes,
references, assistance in applying to
graduate schools, and even being there for
me during and after graduate school. This
is a great program that I would recommend
to anyone."
