Longwood CEHS: Student Groups
National Student Speech-Language-Hearing
The National Student Speech
Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional
membership association for students interested in the study of
communication sciences and disorders. Membership in national NSSLHA is
available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled
full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.
The Longwood University Chapter of NSSLHA seeks to promote the awareness
of the professions related to communication sciences and disorders
through on-campus learning and service activities.
SCEC – Student Council for Exceptional Children
Students in the Special
Education program are strongly encouraged to become members of the
Council for Exceptional Children. This student group meets monthly to
discuss and share Special Education related information and events. They
also organize some activities with the area schools to promote the
educational outcomes of children with disabilities and arrange parties
for children enrolled in classes for students with severe disabilities.
In the past some members of this group have volunteered in the "Read to
a Child" program at Prince Edward Elementary School. This group also
participates in the “Oktoberfest” celebrations on campus. Involvement in
this group provides an opportunity for the members to demonstrate their
leadership skills.
Lancer Alliance
Lancer Alliance is an organization recognized by
Longwood University, which is designed to support, encourage, and
provide assistance to members seeking professional opportunities at the
local, state, and national levels. Membership in this organization is
open to anyone with an interest in physical education, athletic
training, exercise science, community health, therapeutic recreation and
dance.
Lancer Alliance Seeks To:
- Encourage, guide, and support professional
growth and development in health, leisure, and physical education.
- Communicate the importance of health, leisure,
and movement-related activities as they contribute to human body.
- Coordinate and administer a planned program of
professional, public, and government relations that will improve
education in areas of health, leisure, and movement-related
activities.
- Conduct other activities to benefit the
university and the community.
LATA – Longwood Athletic Training Association
The purpose of this organization is to broaden the
member’s knowledge of athletic training. As well as establish a
relationship with the public community and University, and educate them
in the profession of athletic training. We support and promote the
highest quality of healthcare to the physically active population and
promoting the highest quality of social, moral, and ethical obligations
to the athletic training profession. Playing a role in the welfare of
the students, student athletic trainers, graduate student athletic
trainers, certified athletic trainers, and health care providers that
work in association with the
Longwood Athletic Trainers' Association (LATA). |
