Longwood University hosts Phi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota,  the international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators. Chi Sigma Iota I, an organization related to the American Counseling Association was established at Ohio University in 1985.  The mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling. The society lists as its strategic goal the development of leaders for the counseling profession. There are 245 chapters of the society with over 9000 active members.
