Department of Education and Special Education - Undergraduate

Education – Liberal Studies (Elementary endorsement) :In collaboration with the Liberal Studies program, this Department offers the education coursework and experience for students who wish to be elementary education (PK – 6) teachers. Students are Liberal Studies Elementary majors. {Note: this program is housed in The College of Arts and Sciences} Find out more

Education – Liberal Studies (Middle School endorsement): In collaboration with the Liberal Studies program, this Department offers the education coursework and experience for students who wish to be middle education teachers (6 – 8). Students are Liberal Studies Middle School majors.  {Note: this program is housed in The College of Arts and Sciences}  Find out more

Education – Secondary – Arts & Sciences Majors: Biology, Business, Chemistry, , English, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Theatre Arts offer the opportunity for students to teach on the secondary level. {Note: this program is housed in The College of Arts and Sciences} Find out more

Education – All Level (PK-12):  All of the departments below offer teacher preparation programs on the PK-12 level.  Each program has different requirements. Please click on the program that interests you to find out more information.

 


Liberal Studies - Special Education Endorsement:  In your program, you will study the areas of special education as well as the Liberal Studies (Mathematics, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Humanities) for a period of five years. Upon successful completion of the first four years of study, you will earn the Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree in Liberal Studies. After the completion of your graduate year, you will earn the Master of Science Degree in Education with a concentration in special education. You will also meet the requirements for a teaching license that will enable you to teach students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, and mild to moderate mental retardation in grades K-12.  {Note: this program is housed in The College of Arts and Sciences} Find out more

Arts & Sciences – Add-on Endorsements Grades 6-12:  It is possible for some teacher education students to add a second endorsement to a teaching license while completing degree and teacher education requirements. {Note: this program is housed in The College of Arts and Sciences} Find out more
