Liberal Studies - Special Education Endorsement
: Admissions
Criteria for Admission
Course Requirements--You must complete all General Education,
Special Education, and Liberal Studies requirements listed in the
University Catalog and in this handbook (pages 11-14). Be aware that
you must maintain a 2.5 or better overall and major G.P.A. in order to
student teach in your senior year and in order to be accepted into the
fifth graduate year. To be accepted into student teaching you also must
have a minimum grade of “C” in all professional education coursework and
a professional G.P.A. of at least 2.75.
Application for Program Admission
Applications for entry into the Teacher Preparation Program
(available from the Office of Professional Services) with all required
supporting materials
are due
by 5:00 P.M. the last day of classes at
the end of the first semester of the
sophomore year. This deadline also
applies to transfer students who enter
prior to junior status. Those
students transferring with at least junior
status must complete the application by
the end of the fourth week in their second
semester at Longwood. Students who
have matriculated at Longwood and who are
in their sophomore, junior, or senior
year, and for whom Education is not the
declared program of study, but who wish to
enter the Teacher Preparation Program,
must schedule an appointment with the
Office of Professional Services to
determine the deadline for application
based upon their individual circumstances.
Deadlines for the application are
available from the Office of Professional
Services.
Requirements for admission to Teacher Preparation are:
- EDUC 299
- Completed application.
- Student Evaluation Checklist completed by the Instructor for SPED 202
and SPED 220. These checklists are submitted to the Department Chair by
the course instructor at the time final grades are given to the
Registrar.
- Grade of “C” or better in SPED 202 and SPED 220
- Overall grade point average of 2.50.
- Record of successful completion of Praxis I. You must complete the
following sections of the Praxis Exam with the minimum acceptable
score established for teacher preparation students in Virginia:
