Dual-Degree Program: Christopher Newport Requirements
Students transferring to the Christopher Newport University and successfully completing the curriculum will earn the Master of Science in Applied Physics.
What engineering disciplines are available?
Applied Physics (There are two tracks within this degree: the Solid State Physics Option and the Instrumental and Advanced Computer Systems Option). The Solid State option is more traditional, with research focusing on lasers, semiconductors and superconductors. The IACS option is heavily oriented on computer modeling, and design of hardware and software for physics and engineering.
What are the requirements for admission into the dual degree program at Christopher Newport University?
The student should have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 to be accepted into the program.
What additional courses are required for transfer?
For either option, students need CMSC 204, CMSC 206 and CMSC 315. For the individual options, students must also take:
Solid State Option: CHEMM 400 (Physical Chemistry) and the physics elective should be PHYS 326 (Optics)
IACS Option: CMSC 301, 306 and CMSC 311
