For Graduates

  • Have I met all graduation requirements?

  • What time do I need to arrive, and where do I go?
    All Masters degree candidates report at 4:45 pm to Lancaster Hall ground floor with academic regalia (carry hoods, do not wear).
  • What kind of academic regalia will I need?
    Contact Barnes & Noble at Longwood, 391-1240
  • What do I wear under my robe?
    Men should wear dark shoes and trousers. Women should wear dark shoes and skirts no longer than their gown. Don't wear bright colors on top that will detract from your hood.
  • Will there be a Professional Photographer?
    During Commencement, a professional photographer from Showalter Imaging Group Inc./King Photo Supply will take a picture of each graduate. They will have proofs available on their website within 2 days of the ceremony: www.king1hourphoto.com.
  • Who do I contact about accessibility needs for myself or a guest?
    Contact the Office of Disability Resources, Graham Building, (434) 395-2391, by May 5.
  • How many guests am I allowed to invite?
    There is no limit on the guests each graduate may have.
  • Can I bring my pet?
    Only registered service animals are permitted.
  • What is the size of the Longwood diploma and when will I receive it?
    The Longwood diploma is 13 1/4" by 18 1/2".  It will be mailed to the address you provided approx. 4-6 weeks after your graduation date.
  • My name is difficult to pronounce, whom do I contact?

  • Is there a reception for graduates?
    A reception for masters degree graduates and their commencement guests will be sponsored by the College of Graduate and Professional Studies.  The reception will immediately follow the ceremony on Lancaster Lawn.

  • How do I get to Longwood University?
    Please visit Maps & Directions for information on how to get to the University.
  • How many guests is each Graduate allowed?
    There is no limit on the guests each graduate may have. Tickets are not needed.
  • Where do I park?
    Parking is available throughout the campus at any open campus parking lot. If you need accessible parking, please contact the Office of Disability Resources, 434.395.2391 by May 5.
  • What time do I need to arrive?
    Guests need to be seated by 6:45 p.m. as the processional begins at approximately 6:50.
  • Where do I find restrooms during the Ceremony?
    Accessible restrooms are available in the Jarman Auditorium lobby.  
  • Can I bring my pet?
    Only registered service animals are permitted.
  • How long does the ceremony last? 
    The ceremony will last approximately 1 1/2 hours.
  • What did I hear about a reception for graduates?
    A reception will be held for all masters degree graduates and their commencement guests immediately following the ceremony on Lancaster Lawn.
