RAIN PROCEDURES

In keeping with tradition, Commencement is held outside, rain or shine, on Wheeler Mall. Longwood does not have an indoor facility large enough to accommodate our graduates and guests. If there is a serious weather condition on the day of Commencement, please contact the Longwood Information Center, 434-395-2000.

Procedure if Serious Weather Conditions Exist

If the weather is so bad, it is obvious that the ceremony cannot be held on Wheeler Mall, the alternate rain plan is described below. If there is a serious weather condition on the day of Commencement, please contact the Longwood Information Center, 434-395-2000.

In WILLETT HALL: TWO Commencement ceremonies

9:30 – 11:30

• Graduate Studies [Master’s Degrees]
• College of Business and Economics
• College of Education and Human Services

8:30 – Graduates report to the Dance Studio for line-up

8:30 – Faculty report to back hallway in Willett for line-up

8:30 – Platform party members report to Administrative Offices in Willett for line-up

12:00 – 2:00

• Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences

11:00 – Graduates report to the Dance Studio for line-up

11:00 – Faculty report to back hallway in Willett for line-up

[Platform party returns to Administrative Offices immediately following the first ceremony to line-up.]

Once the first ceremony begins, only graduates and faculty reporting for line-up for the second ceremony will be allowed in the building. Guests for the 12:00 ceremony must wait until the first visitors have departed. There are no rain tickets. All guests are welcome.
