What You Can Do to Fight the Flu
Good hygiene is the best way to fight the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu).
Here are some healthy hints from the CDC:
- Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or the crook of your arm, not your hands.
- Dispose of the tissue in the trash after you use it—do not throw it!
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, as germs spread that way.
- Avoid sharing personal items such as drinks, towels, cell phones, iPods, etc.
- The symptoms of swine flu are similar to regular flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue.
- Keep your distance: Avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you get sick stay home—do not go to class or work as you may infect others.
