Social Justice in Action Leadership Summit (SJALS)

This summit brings together a selective group of student leaders from across the university community to engage in in-depth dialogue pertaining to social justice and equality. It is our hope that through participation, LU student leaders will develop a better understanding of their role in limiting the perpetuation of unjust and inequitable practices, in turn becoming more comfortable collaborating and interacting across cultural and racial barriers and boundaries.

We specifically seek undergraduate students who have either expressed a vested interest in social justice and/or interculturalism, or those who would benefit from exposure to the topic. Participants do not have to currently hold formal leadership positions, as this conference is looking to develop new leaders with an interest in social justice and diversity.

This two-day summit is held on campus during the month of February as part of the university's National Black History Month Celebration. The summit is free of charge to all LU students. Please contact the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (434) 395-2394 or via email diversity@longwood.edu for additional information. Registration materials will be avaialble January 2013.
