English 400 Myths & FAQs

English 400 requries a service project
No, but English 400 does require a public writing project, and that project often takes the form of public service, but it need not.

English 400 is an English course.
Yes and no. While it does have an English prefix and is a writing seminar, it is an interdisciplinary course that any faculty member at Longwood can teach. English 400 is a way for faculty to learn along with their students about rhetorical strategies for writing in the public sphere; faculty need not be writing teachers to learn along with their students.

English 400 is a blow off course
No. Ask around. It's a serious course since most of your professional public life will involve writing to get things done.

Can I substitute another course for English 400?
No. There is no other course comparable to English 400.
