Sjourner Truth, formerly known as Isabella Baumfree was born in 1797. When slavery was abolished in New York State, in 1827 she was set free.  Isabella said that God led her to change her name to Sojourner Truth, because she was to "declare the truth to the people." Sojourner became an activist for the rights of people, especially women and black women.  Sojourner is known for her best for her speech "Ain't I A Woman". Charmaine Crowell-White, is able to capture the essence of this historical woman's message and passion during her time honored speech'
