Artificial Intelligence - Commercial & Consumer Applications

Speaker: Stephen Furlong

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are having a moment.  After 40 years of promises, radical advances in processing power now offer Data Scientists and Developers unprecedented opportunities to create solutions whose impact we are just beginning to understand.  Specifically, we will explore business and consumer solutions of computer vision, natural language processing, and deep learning.  For a few use cases, we'll deep dive into the algorithms and reference architectures that make these solutions possible.

Bio: Mr. Furlong graduated from Longwood in 1987 with a degree in Math/Comp Sci.  He also earned a Masters degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.  Mr. Furlong works for Amazon in their Amazon Web Services group, which is the world's largest commercial cloud technology provider.  At Amazon he leads technical sales strategy for cloud services in the Americas. This includes services such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.  Mr. Furlong resides in Vienna, VA with his wife and two boys.  He enjoys family time, travel, and sports.
